Dowie Named QPR Manager

Iain Dowie has been with several clubs over the past few years, including Oldham Athletic, Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic and Coventry City, so has his experience led to him being chosen as the replacement of Luigi de Canio, the former QPR manager? Having spent three years of his playing career at Loftus Road, Dowie will be famililar with his surroundings and also having the experience of being with QPR whilst being Caretaker Manager and Assistant Manager, a two year deal with the club must be an exciting prospect.
Former manager Canio left QPR after only being with the club eight months, but personal circumstances meant that Canio had to return home to Italy, so it was not long before one of the richest clubs in English Football had to make a decision as to whether they brought back the Northern Ireland International.
QPR have a lot of money backing them, including Lakshmi Mittal, who is the wealthiest man in Great Britain and Formula One star Bernie Ecclestone and Renault team managing director Flavio Briatore.
Having dropped from the Premiership back in 1996, the Board of QPR feel its time that they reclaimed their Premiership status, and with new signings made over the past few days including Radek Cerny, the goalkeeper of Slavia Prague, and Newcastle United defender Peter Ramage, it looks as though interesting times could be around the corner for the club.
QPR were looking at relegation from the Championship to Division One not so long ago, but managed to secure fourteenth position at the end of the season. Dowie has a good track record in the Championship, but not only will be looking at strengthening the squad some more and getting the results needed, but will not be wanting a repeat performance which he had whilst being in charge of Coventry for only fifteen games.
